You will appreciate our expanded appointment hours, being available 6-7 days a week with extended evening hours on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for people with busy day schedules. We are open at least two Sundays a month .

For your added convenience, try our "drop off" service where you can leave your pet with us first thing in the morning and pick him or her up after work on your way home. Dr. Slovon will contact you after his initial examination to discuss the diagnosis and recommended therapy.

BIRDS/EXOTICS

We offer the most extensive and advanced diagnostics and treatments for avians (birds) and exotics, including, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, and rodents. Avian surgical techniques including surgical sexing, exploratory endoscopy, hysterectomy, electrosurgery, cryosurgery and microsurgery are routinely performed. Too often we hear that owners didn’t know that care was available for their exotic pet. During your visit we will inform you about medical concerns and all aspects of husbandry.  Our newest instrumentation involves the use of laser surgery to minimize bleeding and trauma. 

Because birds and other exotics often mask their symptoms, we recommend prophylactic screening to assess their health. This may include bloodwork, cultures and viral screening. We recommend that all birds be examined every 6 months, while most reptiles and other exotics are seen at least once a year.

SPECIAL DIETS

We carry Harrison’s Bird diets, the only organic bird diet on the market. We find that 80% of people who buy the diet are able to get their bird s to convert to pellets. We also offer Rodybush Bird Pellets and Zeigler Iguana pellets.

Additionally, we carry a full line of prescription diets for canine and feline patients. All diets can be reserved or ordered either by phone or e-mail ( e-mail button)

ABOUT THE DOCTOR:

Dr. Slovon graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of the Philippines in 1984 and, after practicing in the Randallstown area for four years, opened the Owings Mills Animal & Bird Hospital in 1988. His interest in exotic pets and birds started prior to veterinary school and has been emphasized ever since. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Greater Baltimore Veterinary Association, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, and the Mid-Atlantic States Association of Avian Veterinarians and has served on several of these associations including past president of the Mid-Atlantic States Association of Avian Veterinarians. He has lectured to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, health care professionals and aviculture clubs on numerous topics. Local newspapers have carried Dr. Slovon's column "You & Your Pet."

Dr. Slovon has also been a guest speaker several times on local radio shows. In addition he works closely with many breeders and wildlife rehabilitaters.
